Philodendron Mayoi's Facts and Car guide

Philodendron Mayoi's Facts and Car guide

Origins: Originated from Brazil, the philodendron mayoi can be found in many parts of the Amazon rainforest, Goias, and Manaus. Later the plant was introduced to Southeast Asia and Australia.

The plant was named after the famous botanist, Dr. Simon Mayo.

This plant can get huge given the optimal condtions and something to climb on.

Philodendron Mayoi's Care:

  • Humidity: Extremely easy aroid. They can grow pretty well in low humidity around 35-40%. Of course, high humidity will help the plant grow faster and bigger leaves.

  • Temperature: Grows best at 70-80°F yet it can also handle the 60-85 range. Avoid cold drafts, heat stress, or sudden temperature changes. Anything less than 55° Fahrenheit (12.5C) in a long period will result in stunted growth, withering, or even death for most philodendrons.

  • Light: Moderately-bright light (around 400 to 1000 foot-candle.) A little touch of direct morning or evening light can benefit the plant.

  • Watering:  Thoroughly water your plant when the top 1/3rd of the soil feels dry.

  • soil mix: Airy, well-drained, organic reach soil or potting mix. Buy our aroid mix here: https://leafysoulmates.com/products/mix

  • Fertilizer: a nitrogen-rich and micro-nutrient-focused fertilizer only in the growing season.

  • Support: Philodendron Mayoi is a climber. It will need support as soon as possible to grow bigger leaves. If you want to accelerate the growth, use a moss pole and make sure the moss is constantly moist. Shop our water-retentive moss pole here: https://leafysoulmates.com/products/pole to prevent watering your moss pole every day.

  • Propagating: Mayoi cuttings and nodes are not too hard to propagate. You can use water or moss to root cuttings. It will take up to 10 days for a new root to form. For unrooted node propagation, check out this blog: https://leafysoulmates.com/blogs/care/how-to-successfully-root-unrooted-nodes?_pos=1&_sid=f28f52ba1&_ss=r

  • Repotting: Since Mayoi's roots are quite meaty and robust, you will need to repot the plant in a year or until it gets rootbound.
